An Innovation Hub: The GigEast Exchange
In early 2018, Wilson was awarded a $1.1 million grant from the Golden LEAF Foundation to create this creative work space. The GigEast Exchange is a Greenlight directed project where we are transforming a two-story vacant building at 127 Goldsboro Street into a physical place that is envisioned as unleashing endless opportunities for the community. The vision for the Exchange is to create a vibrant gathering place, a venue for collaboration and creativity that builds a reputation of innovative entrepreneurship for the Wilson. It will be a place which encourages a community of technology innovators, entrepreneurs, and others dedicated and committed to economic diversity in Wilson. It will be a meeting place to work together to mentor youth, and expose children to STEAM skills. It will catalyze the City of Wilson as a center for innovation and be ground zero for smart city technologies in the southeast.
The Exchange will be equipped with gigabit speed from Greenlight Community Broadband and will offer co-working and small office space.

"The Exchange is all about building partnerships and building the momentum. When it opens, I want as many people in there as possible and making sure the Exchange is a vital part of the innovative economy and community being built here with programs, educational opportunities and opportunities for others to use the space for meetings as well.”
